REPRODUCTIVE MENTAL HEALTH

Action is Hope.

The journey to and through parenthood rarely goes as expected, and yet we’re continually bombarded with ideas of how it’s supposed to go. Images of the ideal birth experience and “perfect” families can be so isolating. The Austin Counseling Center for Women & Families (ACCWF) specializes In mental well-being before, after, and during pregnancy through parenthood. The stress that a woman experiences during pregnancy and after childbirth has a great impact not only on the mother but also impacts the healthy brain development of the future child. Reproductive transitions and the conditions that come with those changes, like postpartum depression (PPD), are finally getting the attention they deserve -- yet reproductive mental health encompasses so much more.

The ACCWF helps individuals at all points in this journey.  Dr. Massimo is one of the first certified perinatal mental health specialists (PMH-C) by Postpartum Support International in Ohio and is also certified in Interpersonal Therapy (IPT-A).  IPT, and Cognitive-behavioral therapy are both evidence-based psychotherapies for the treatment of perinatal mental health disorders. Through quality mental health care at ACCWF, the physical and mental health outcomes of mothers, partners, and their babies can be improved.
